Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Enrichment and Aspire

At Oasis Academy Hobmoor every child has the chance to access a variety of enriching experiences from Nursery through to Year 6. We build this into day-to-day lessons but also through organising special events, day trips, visitors and family events.

We are extremely passionate and proud of our enrichment offer to our pupils. Our partnerships with Enabling Enterprise, NACE, ‘Brilliant Club’, and the local King Edwards grammar schools mean that our pupils, of all abilities, receive an enrichment offer that is second-to-none.

Our pupils undertake research projects under the guidance of PhD tutors; access Shakespeare and public speaking workshops; undertake experiments in world class laboratories; visit universities, law firms and high performing corporate businesses in the city, thus raising the aspirations of all.

Oasis Academy Hobmoor has very strong links with Educational Partnerships that provide an outstanding learning experience for our children. We work with Roots to Fruit – a charity organisation that brings horticulture and natural science lessons to our academy on a weekly basis. Mercurial Dance has been instrumental in providing creative arts experiences through dance and drama to our academy and also leads on the running and development of our Aspire programme.

We really value world music and have an excellent partnership with Birmingham’s Music Services department. Weekly Dhol and Djembe lessons are delivered to our children from outstanding professional musicians.

Aspire

Oasis Academy Hobmoor’s ‘Aspire’ philosophy for learning, underpins the academy’s curriculum.  The Aspire programme has become an integral part of school life. Evolving year to year around key elements, our aim is to support and enrich the children’s learning helping them to fulfil their ambitions and to become the very best version of themselves.

Through ‘Aspire’ days, we are keen to create a range of experiences for children and staff, which connect them to the cultural and political organisations in the city. We build a range of activities and events that unlock creative potential and help raise aspirations.

To our people, our curriculum offer is known as The Aspire Curriculum. It intentionally puts pupil (and staff) aspirations at its heart.  Our Aspire curriculum is built on solid foundations – an exceptional offer in both the academic and pastoral subjects; in character development; and in career preparation. This is best summed up in the image below:

On top of these foundations, we have four distinct pillars which make Hobmoor, Hobmoor. Our world class horticulture programme; our arts programme ran by resident artists; our more able provision; and uniquely, our Hobmoor University. The Hobmoor University can be best understood by the below infographic. This is aimed to embed and enhance the core Oasis aim of developing Competence, Character and Community.

The Hobmoor University is an enrichment programme for the whole Hobmoor family - this includes our staff and pupils! For staff we would be giving extra time within the working week to help develop our people and develop the skills they need to thrive. This includes coaching, Horizons training, NACE courses, Powerful Action Steps or NPQs. But we also include enrichment and wellbeing electives such as yoga, counselling, volunteering, or gardening.  These also apply to our young learners and we build in character development to compliment this with skills building, transition programmes, hub opportunities, and the 9 Habits. Our children get a full enrichment programme too, which involves experiences such as the Roots to Fruit scheme, Dhol drumming, school clubs, carpentry, competitions, camping and junior Duke of Edinburgh. Finally, we look at career preparation for our children; we try to help them build valuable skills, give them chances to apply for scholar programmes working with local colleges and universities, pupil parliament, financial management courses, engineering student mentoring and grammar school masterclasses.
