Academy Council
The Academy Council plays a vital role in the life of Oasis Academy Hobmoor. It is comprised of members of the local community, the local authority, parent representatives, a member of the support staff and a member of the teaching staff. Meeting 6 times in the evening throughout the academic year, the Academy Council acts as ‘critical friends’ on issues of attainment and performance, whilst also being very involved in ensuring the development of a thriving and holistic community Hub.
The Academy Council does not have the statutory responsibilities of the Academy, these are held at national level by the OCL Board. All Academy Councillors are appointed by the Oasis Community Learning National Executive.
The main roles and tasks our Academy Council undertakes are:
- Act as a key link between the Academy, parents and local community,
- To support the work of the Academy in the community
- Support the principal and Academy leadership team in the development and implementation of the Academy Development Plan and other relevant plans: assessing the impact and ensuring that the Oasis Ethos remains at the heart of the Academy community.
- To help on the ground with the implementation of certain Academy policies e.g. exclusions and grievances/appeals, support in the selection process of staff etc.
- Offer challenging but positive and proactive support to the principal.
- Regularly review the Academy's performance.
Oasis Academy Councils are made up of between 7 – 15 people drawn from a variety of backgrounds and have different reasons for connecting with Hobmoor. Some have/had children at the Academy, some are employed by the Academy whilst others live or work locally. These individuals come together to provide their collective views on progress and achievement of our objectives; this cross-section of the community ensures we get a mixture of perspectives to improve debate. This list is updated every six months or annually. All Academy Councillors are appointed for a 3 year term of office unless stated otherwise.
